The Kannawidan Ylocos Festival is a yearly celebration in Ilocos Sur, marking its founding on February 2, 1818. The word “Kannawidan” means heritage, showing the festival’s role in preserving Ilocano culture.
The event features traditional dances like street dancing, grand parade wherein all different cities in Ilocos Sur come participate the parade with different floats, music, religious activities, food fairs, and trade exhibits. People can enjoy local favorites like bagnet, longganisa, and empanada, while parades and contests make the festival lively.
Kannawidan helps keep Ilocano traditions alive, supports local businesses, and attracts tourists, boosting the economy. It’s a time for Ilocanos like me to celebrate their heritage and community pride.
