A Legacy Woven in Pride, Unity, and Tradition

The past years, our school, Ilocos Sur National High School (ISNHS), marks another milestone in its rich history with a grand celebration of its founding anniversary. This year’s 123rd High School Day was no exception, it was a day filled with excitement, and the day was packed with activities. We started the day with a parade, walking together with our classmates and teachers. People watched as we passed by, and it felt good to be part of something big. The parade showed how we are all connected as one school.

After the parade, we performed our field demonstration, which we had practiced for weeks. This was our big moment to show what we had learned. All ISNHS students joined the performance, and we were grouped by grade level, from Grade 7 to Grade 11. Boys and girls had separate performances, each showing their own dance. Dancing together with my schoolmates made me feel proud because we worked hard for it. After the performance, we sat down and enjoyed lunch as a class. It was a simple but happy moment where we ate, laughed, and talked about the fun things that happened.

The last part of the day was the Concert for a Cause. Many talented students performed, and the music filled the air with excitement. It was a great way to end the celebration because it was not just about fun, it was also about helping others. This yearly event reminds us of our school’s long history and the values of friendship, teamwork, and kindness that ISNHS teaches us.

Kannawidan, One Festival!

The Kannawidan Ylocos Festival is a yearly celebration in Ilocos Sur, marking its founding on February 2, 1818. The word “Kannawidan” means heritage, showing the festival’s role in preserving Ilocano culture.

The event features traditional dances like street dancing, grand parade wherein all different cities in Ilocos Sur come participate the parade with different floats, music, religious activities, food fairs, and trade exhibits. People can enjoy local favorites like bagnet, longganisa, and empanada, while parades and contests make the festival lively.

Kannawidan helps keep Ilocano traditions alive, supports local businesses, and attracts tourists, boosting the economy. It’s a time for Ilocanos like me to celebrate their heritage and community pride.

Can you feel it? Love is in the air

Valentine’s Day is a special day celebrated every February 14. It is a day to show love and appreciation to the people we care about, like family, friends, and special someone. People celebrate it in different ways all over the world.

We celebrate Valentine’s Day by making our loved ones feel special. Some people give gifts like chocolates, flowers, or cards, while others spend time together and share happy moments. But Valentine’s Day is not just for couples, it’s for anyone who wants to spread love and kindness.

Showing love doesn’t have to be expensive. A simple smile, hug, or a sweet message can make someone happy. What matters most is the effort and love we put into making others feel special.

From Codes to Culture Unpacking, Our CBR Adventure

Here we are, gathered around a table in one of our groupmate’s house, discussing our plan for the Community-Based Research (CBR) project. Everyone is excited and full of ideas about exploring the Longganisa Festival.

This picture shows us talking to people who were enjoying the Longganisa Festival. They shared their personal experiences and ideas on how to make the festival even better. We also learned about the history behind the event, which made our research more meaningful.

Hearing directly from people involved in the festival gave us a deeper appreciation for its traditions and how it brings the community together.

In the computer lab, we spent time researching more about the Longganisa Festival to make our project even better.

We searched for articles, videos, and other online sources to understand the history, traditions, and importance of the festival. The more we read, the more we learned about how the festival brings people together and its cultural significance.
This extra research helped us add valuable details to our project and gave us a deeper understanding of the event we were studying.

It also made our work more informative and interesting, which we were excited to share.

In weekends, we meet up and go to a cafe. we’re all focused on coding our website for the project. It was definitely a challenge at first, as we had to make sure everything looked right and worked properly.

It was great to see how everyone pitched in with ideas and solutions. We worked together, helping each other with coding problems and sharing tips on how to improve our design.
The more we collaborated, the easier it became, and soon we were having fun figuring things out. It felt awesome to see our hard work come together, and by the end, we were proud of what we created.

Finally we finished our Community-based Research. The journey was challenging but incredibly fun and educational. Working on this CBR project taught us so much about the Longganisa Festival and strengthened our teamwork and research skills. It was an unforgettable experience that combined learning with real-world engagement.

Turning Codes Into Creativity My ICT Learnings

I learned a lot about ICT this quarter, especially in regards to the use HTML and CSS to create Web designs. Making our own webpage design and seeing how different codes work to create a website was fun. I learned on how important structure and design are when creating a, simple website.

But it wasn't simple. Because a one small error may ruin the entire design, and I found coding to be quite difficult. Even though I was frustrated at times, I continued. I went over our lessons and practiced using the codes we learned to solve this. Working on our community-based study also allowed me to use these ability to improved my understanding of coding.

Moving on, I will keep improving my skills and keep learning by practicing more and trying out new methods. I wish to gain greater trust when coding and improve my ability to quickly correct mistakes. I learned from this experience that learning something new requires patience and effort.

Celebrating Chinese New Year the Filipino Way

In the Philippines, Chinese New Year is an special occasion. Long ago, a large number of Chinese people brought their culture to our islands. Many Filipinos now participate in the festivals as a result of their traditions mixing with our own throughout time.

Bright colors, loud firecrackers, and amazing dragon dances are everywhere at the festival. Families and friends gather to eat together and wish for a fresh start. No matter where one comes from, everyone is happy because of this special occasion.

Chinese New Year today shows how many cultures can coexist together. We take happiness in the fun moments and friendly get together with our Chinese-Filipino people. It's an opportunity to wish the new year luck and joy.

Vigan: From Old Trading Town to Modern City

Vigan, located on the western coast of Luzon in the Philippines, has a rich history dating back to the 16th century. Originally established as a Spanish trading post, it became a significant center for commerce and culture during the colonial era. Over time, Vigan evolved from a municipality into a vibrant city, blending its historical charm with modern development.

Before achieving city status, Vigan was a municipality known for its well-preserved Spanish colonial architecture and cobblestone streets. Its unique townscape, reflecting a fusion of Asian and European influences, led to its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This recognition highlighted Vigan’s importance as one of the few remaining examples of a planned Spanish colonial town in Asia.

In 2001, Vigan was officially recognized as a city, marking a new chapter in its history. This transition spurred economic growth and development, attracting tourists and investors alike. Today, Vigan stands as a testament to the successful preservation of cultural heritage while embracing progress, offering a unique blend of historical significance and modern amenities.
